Phoenix, AZ – February 18 – Mayor Kate Gallego visited ACRES Community Creators Marketplace on Roosevelt Row to meet with two of the city’s youngest entrepreneurs, Maddie and Marlee, who, alongside their families, run Maddie B’s Chicago Style Popcorn and Marlee’s Lemonade. Maddie B’s is a specialty popcorn shop and Marlee’s Lemonade is a gourmet lemonade stand, both operated out of ACRES Marketplace which is an incubator store for small businesses looking to scale. The visit highlights Phoenix’s thriving small business community and the importance of fostering the young entrepreneurial spirit.
At just eight years old, Maddie has already made a name for herself in the local business scene. With flavors ranging from classic caramel to spicy Southwest-inspired blends, her popcorn creations have delighted both locals and visitors alike. The family-owned business has become a staple on Roosevelt Row, known for its commitment to quality, creativity, and community engagement.
And also at just 8 years old, Marlee of Marlee’s Lemonade, has made a name for herself and has many incredible flavors of refreshing lemonades that are difficult to find around the city, but Marlee’s has them!
“Phoenix is a city where dreams take shape, no matter how young you are,” said Mayor Gallego. “Entrepreneurs like Maddie and Marlee and their families represent the innovative and hardworking spirit that makes our local economy thrive. Supporting small businesses means investing in the future of Phoenix.”
During the visit, Mayor Gallego sampled some of the store’s signature flavors, and spoke with both the girls about their journeys as young business owners. The event also brought together members of the Roosevelt Row business community, reinforcing the city’s dedication to fostering entrepreneurship at all levels.
“I started this business because I love making people smile with our popcorn,” said Maddie. “It’s exciting to have the Mayor here and to know that Phoenix supports young people like us who want to build something special.” Marlee and her family share the same sentiments having staked their claim in the small business community as well.
