Phoenix, AZ — April 16, 2026 — Roosevelt School District is proud to announce a generous book donation from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® during its Far Western Regional Conference, taking place at the Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix on April 16.
As part of this impactful literacy initiative, the district anticipates receiving over 1,000 books to benefit students across Roosevelt schools. The book drive will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a special book donation ceremony scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
Superintendent Dr. Dani Portillo and district leadership, including Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Anna Battle will be in attendance to formally accept the donation alongside the Far Western Regional Director and members of Alpha Kappa Alpha. The event will also include opportunities to capture photos and video, highlighting this meaningful moment of community partnership.
Through the generous support of Cloves C. Campbell, the initiative has expanded to provide additional books to students at Cloves C. Campbell Sr. Elementary School, in addition to the originally identified Percy L. Julian Elementary School. This effort reflects a shared commitment to supporting literacy, fostering a love of reading, and ensuring students have access to engaging, high quality books.
In addition to receiving books, students will also be given bookmarks featuring personalized affirmation messages designed to build confidence, strengthen literacy development, and inspire a lifelong love of reading.
“This partnership represents the power of community coming together to support our students,” said district leadership. “Access to books is essential in shaping strong readers and lifelong learners, and we are grateful to Alpha Kappa Alpha for their investment in our students’ success and being part of the Genesis of Change.”
This event underscores Roosevelt School District’s continued commitment to literacy and highlights the importance of collaborative efforts that create meaningful opportunities for students.
