For Mason Magee, the game has never been about comfort. It has always been about challenge.
From the moment he picked up a basketball at the Mesa YMCA at five years old, it was clear Magee was wired differently. By midseason, coaches recommended he move up to compete against older players. That theme would follow him throughout his career. While most players grow into competition, Magee chased it.
At seven, he joined AZ Best Select’s 10U team and immediately became their leading scorer. He stayed with the program until age 13, eventually playing on the 15U squad, competing against players two and three years older than himself. The results were the same: production, leadership, and poise beyond his age.
By 14, Magee was already competing on the national stage with the San Diego Prospects, finding success in major tournaments and proving he belonged against elite competition. His camp résumé told the same story. He earned MVP honors twice at the EBC Camps and stood out as a top performer at the Ballislife All-American Camp in California, further validating his status as one of the region’s premier guards.
“Mason has always played up,” one longtime evaluator said. “That’s shaped his edge. He’s never been intimidated.”
Magee entered Basha High School as a 13-year-old freshman, an uncommon feat that set the tone for a decorated high school career. Now a senior, he leaves Basha with one of the most impressive résumés in Arizona basketball:
• Two-time First Team All-State selection
• Two-time First Team All-Region (6A)
• 6A Region Defensive Player of the Year
• Chandler Unified School District Offensive Player of the Year
• Chandler Unified School District Defensive Player of the Year
Those accolades reflect more than scoring. They speak to Magee’s identity as a complete guard—someone who impacts the game on both ends of the floor. He defends with intensity, controls tempo, and competes with the mindset of a player who has always been tested.

On the AAU circuit, Magee continued his upward climb, competing with Vegas Elite on the EYBL platform at both the 15U and 16U levels. Against the nation’s best, he showed the same traits that defined him locally: toughness, composure, and an ability to rise in big moments.
That journey reached a milestone on November 12, his 17th birthday, when Magee signed his National Letter of Intent to play Division I basketball at the University of San Francisco during the winter signing period. Mason recently became the all time assists and points leader at Basha and other records are sure to come
For a player who has spent his entire career playing older, faster, and stronger competition, the next level feels less like a leap and more like a continuation.
