The Piper Fellows Program—offered annually by the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust—is a prestigious opportunity empowering nonprofit leaders in Maricopa County. Each year, up to six fellows are selected to receive a $30,000 professional development grant, plus $10,000 for staff/board development, and eligibility for a $50,000 Organizational Enhancement Award to implement strategic improvements

Who Should Apply?
Nonprofit leaders who:

  • Work full-time in nonprofits (501(c)(3)) serving Maricopa County for at least 10 years
  • Have a minimum of 7 years of experience in the nonprofit sector
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, oversee significant programs or operations, and are planning a self-designed sabbatical or development plan

What It Offers:

  • A sabbatical-style fellowship to explore, learn, and reflect
  • Funding for personal study, travel, training, and respite
  • Grants to strengthen attendees’ teams and boards
  • A chance to join a thriving community of over 118 past fellows

2025 Timeline:

  • Applications due: August 1, 2025
  • Fellowship begins: January 2026
  • Final reflection report due within 3 months of completion
