Millennium Dominate Valley Vista to Capture Girls Open Division Championship

On Saturday, March 8th, the Valley Vista Monsoon faced off against the Millennium Tigers in the Girls Open Division Championship. Both teams entered the game riding impressive winning streaks—Millennium had won its last 10 games, while Valley Vista was on a 14-game streak.
Millennium set the tone early, aggressively pushing the pace and applying defensive pressure from the opening tip. Their intensity paid off as they built an 18-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter, Valley Vista showed signs of life with an 8-0 run, but the Tigers quickly regained control. Led by senior guard Destiny Lunan, Millennium closed the half strong, taking a 31-18 lead into the break. Lunan, a North Carolina State signee and the frontrunner for state player of the year, was dominant in the first half, scoring from all over the floor. Her length and ability to get into the paint could not be contained.
The second half followed a similar script, with Millennium’s defense continuing to frustrate Valley Vista’s offense. By the end of the third quarter, the Tigers had extended their lead to 45-27. The fourth quarter was a mere formality as Millennium cruised to a decisive 57-31 victory. Lunan finished with an outstanding 37 points and five steals, while sophomore guard Dashia Richardson added 16 points and five rebounds to help secure the win.
