Phoenix Country Day senior Olivia Owens is no stranger to success—both on and off the basketball court. Before moving to Arizona as a freshman, she was already making a name for herself as a two-sport standout in Columbus, Ohio, excelling in both basketball and soccer. A gifted athlete, she began competing against high school-level players as early as the sixth grade.

Relocating to Arizona during the COVID-19 pandemic presented its challenges, particularly adjusting to the local basketball scene. However, Owens quickly made her mark, capturing a state championship as a freshman while playing for a local prep school. Since then, she has continued to shine, leading her team to multiple titles while maintaining excellence in the classroom.

Academically, Owens is just as impressive. She holds a 3.8 unweighted GPA while tackling advanced coursework in math, science, and Mandarin Chinese. Her interests extend beyond sports—she has a passion for aviation and was honored with the “Top Gun” award at the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals Aerospace Career Education Academy. A natural leader, she serves on her school’s student leadership committee and is actively involved in Jack and Jill of America, where she currently serves as recording secretary.

On March 1st, Owens stepped onto the court at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum for her final high school game, aiming to secure a third consecutive state championship for Phoenix Country Day. Competing in the inaugural Copper Division, the Eagles faced off against Page High School. Owens and her teammates set the tone early, taking a 32-20 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, Phoenix Country Day, led by Owens, began to pull away, ultimately cruising to a dominant 62-35 victory to close out a stellar 27-5 season. Owens delivered a standout performance, finishing with a game-high 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Throughout her high school career, Owens played a pivotal role in Phoenix Country Day’s success, leading the team to an impressive 81-10 record and earning Region Player of the Year honors all three seasons. This fall, she will take her talents to the University of San Diego, where she plans to major in Architectural Engineering. With her dedication and drive, there’s no doubt she will continue to achieve greatness in both academics and athletics.
